Can I weld on top of a cast iron table top ? Can I use the cast iron as a ground and clamp to it and weld steel pieces on top of it ?(not TO the iron tho)

I am pretty sure I can't weld to cast iron easily as steel.

The table in question is a craftsman table saw 10" blade. It is the table powered by a separate belt driven machine(somewhat old).
