I went to buy the 20lbs pressurized sandblaster from them it was on sale for $50, so I figured that was a good deal. Well they didn't have it in stock so they are going to call me when they have it. Now that the impulse shopping bug as faded i'm starting to wonder how well this works. I would only be using it on small areas of my frame where I couldn't get the grinder and misc smaller parts. Anybody using this product, are you happy with it, what kind of media are you using for rust/paint removal?

I bought the $20 top loader version from HF. I picked up some Al medium media when i was there too. It works great and takes paint and rust off quick, but wear a respirator and goggles because there is a lot of bounce back and mess. I can't believe how much time a little POS HF sandblaster has saved me, shoulda bought it years ago. I really need a blast box to keep the media out of my face, and to reuse it, but it will only work with small parts. It will blast the size of a penny clean in about 1-2 seconds.

Thanks that is what I was wanting to hear. Did you buy your media at HF or somewhere else.

HF. I didn't plan on buying it, but i figured $20 + media is worth a shot. I blasted a bunch of rust and paint off my wheelbarrow to test it out, and was impressed on how clean it got the metal. Its a loud messy job, and i hate wearing my respirator. I figured "I'll just hold my breath" but then my nose smelled like metal for hours after so i figured thats probably not good. The stuff just flies every were. I use a orbital sander on all the flat pieces with easy access. The sandblaster is for the places i cant get with the sander. Sometimes i use a flap disk instead of a sander depending on what type of finish i want.

I'd been looking at the HF blasters for sometime when I came across this: http://www.pablaster.com/
I spent the $10 for the plans and built two of them. One from PVC, and the other from a water tank. So far I'm really happy with both of them. Just another option...

Get it. I currently don't have one, but I used to have the top load, siphon type. Problem with the top load units I have had is, they get crap in the tub and the orfice gets plugged up. If you do get a top load just make sure you cover it when not in use. I don't think the pressure units have that problem. When you get the blaster also get a full face mask. I used an old 4" view welding helmet and removed the tinted glass. This worked very well. Get ear plugs both for the sound and you don't want sand in the ears. Long sleeve shirt, I always used welding sleeves and gloves. Get a good resperator. A good broom to sweep up and tarps to lay down also come in handy.

I'm getting a little annoyed with HF it's been 2 weeks and they still don't have it in. I sanded all the areas I could on my frame now I need the blaster to finnish off the sections I couldn't get to. I'm really wanting to paint this frame and start rebuilding my jeep.

A relative has the pressurized one, and it works quite well - it certainly is faster and clogs less than the siphon-feed variety - but it goes through sand like you wouldn't believe. Make sure you're using a capture&filter system, or it's expensive to run. You'll also need >15CFM to run it at a good duty cycle.

I finnaly got mine in. It does work real good, and it sure does go thru a lot of sand 100lbs goes by in less then 1/2 hour. Also I did have to buy a bigger compressor this thing uses a lot of air. All in all a good product I am very pleased with it.
