The best part of this thread as a wheeler/hack fabricator is that I know that the pictures make it look like a day or so project. I venture to guess that you have many many hours of hard work and thought into it. Looks awesome.

You are correct!! I have no idea how many total hours went into this project because I did it a little at a time, but I'd venture a guess at about 60 hours, not counting installation.

Sorry guys.. I tried to "merge posts" into a "Shop Accident" Sticky.. but I messed it up a bit. Rich's Accident thread is stickied, and Rich's story is included, but his original thread location is showing up as "Deleted".. even though it's just moved.

But yeah.. top of the page has all the details on his accident. I also posted a gratuitous "eye" shot from my last mishap.

It takes skill, but it also takes the right equipment, too.

Yeah, I have a 1946 Hobart TLF-182 AC welder...
the Hobart museum actually asked for detailed pictures of it when I asked for a copy of the owner's manual.

Wow...that's quite a welding machine! Did you send them the pictures? Is it in good shape?

Sent the pics and I did mod it by putting in a fan to aiding cooling and step up the duty cycle. it is in great shape for being older than my dad. The diagram printed on the metal sheet has come off and I had to write the amp settings on the face of the plastic. They said to avoid trying to rivet the metal plate back on to the bakelite insulation as it might cause it to crack and they obviosly do not make spare parts for this thing any more.
I'll see if I can dig up some pics of it (snowing and dark right now).
