Cool. Did you use a 2" receiver hitch on top for the rack? I still haven't built a rack for mine. Can't wait to see the pics. If you don't post them here pm me with the link.

I'll post them today. Got caught up replacing both CV shafts on my wifes passat yesterday so didn't get to it. I did use a 2" receiver hitch for the top. I want to fab a mount for some military type gas and water cans to go under the rack between or on each side of the tire too, but am wondering about stability . Might have to make some quick release type support arms or something.

I intend to just build a rack that can carry an ice chest or a couple 5 gallon plastic DOT "lawnmower" gas cans. Can't wait to see your set-up.

Well I finally got some pics. Unfortunately I am stationed at Ft.Drum Ny and for every inch of snow we get they put down two inches of salt. So everything looks white. After I had the tire carrier fabed up I had it powdercoated and that even seems to not compete with the salt here. Chasis Saver fortunately works on everything. Anyway here are the pics. I ended up using a one inch solid stainless bolt for the hinges with a brass type fitting from Macmaster Carr. Worked very well. Thanks again for the awesome help and great ideas.

Bravo!

Boy, it sure looks familar! I had to go out to the garage and make sure mine was still there. Great job. You will like it.

You have a "rest" on the latch side?

Once I had mine done I figured I'd be working some bugs out later. That was almost 4 years ago and zero bugs. Zero rattles as well.

Thanks, I tried hard to get it just like your setup. I like it a lot. Have gotten several compliments on it. Extreemly solid. I did make a latch rest but haven't installed it yet. I probably will after I make the above tire basket, gas/water can holder just for that added support. I'm still waiting for a good snow so I can justify to the wife to make the skii and snowboard carrier.
