Eddie When you first told me of the Press brake idea you had I never thought it was like this. This is awesome. I hope your keeping all the .dfx files and a parts list for me. I will be doing this soon. How much do you think you will have in it when it is all done? And how many man hours?

Thanks James!! I am keeping all the files. There are a few minor tweaks I'll probably make (while I can still remember them) but just about everything fits perfectly together so far.

Right now, I'm in roughly..

2 Sheets of 1/2" (4x8).. $350 each
2 Sheets of 3/8" (4x8).. $320 each
2 Sheets of 1/4" (4x8).. $280 each
10ft of 1"x2" Flat Bar.. $50ish
4ft of 2.25"x.25" DOM.. $50ish? (had it laying around)
1ft of 2"x3/8" DOM.. $10ish? (had it laying around)
2ea 1 1/4" Heims.. $70 (eBay)
5"x14" Hydraulic Ram.. $350ish (bought it a while back)
5hp 220v1p Motor.. $380 (Northern)
Log Splitter Valve..$80
12gal Reservoir..110
Strainer..$20
13.6gpm Dual Stage Pump..$160
Couplers..$55
Filter Housing..$25

So.. I'm in about $3200 so far. Still have about $150-$200 in hydraulic hoses to pick up. Another $150 in pivot pins. $1000 for a 48" punch/die (1.5" opening).

I'll be in about $4500-$5000 when it's all said and done. Hope this thing works or I'm gonna have to clear out a spot in the shop to sleep for the next 6 months.

Been pecking away slowly at this monster..

We drilled the plastic wear plates with a countersink bit and dilled/tapped the punch guide plates to bolt the plastic to them from the inside. The countersunk bolts are sunk in far enough that they won't make contact with the punch plate..

Here's the channel that the punch plate will ride in.. plastic on all 3 sides.

Mocked up the punch holders with a piece of punch I had laying around.. good fit.

Went ahead and finished welding the punch plate.. and then mocked it up in the frame to check fit. With punch and die installed, it looks like I'll have right around 4 1/2" of travel in the system.

Also, been trying to find time to weld some of the "small" pieces together.. here's one of the arms I did yesterday..

now that you finished my bumper, can you get on to more important stuff? Get this thing built, man... so you can start making more parts for my CJ. This thing is cool to see, and pretty darned impressive. Will it be wide enough to bend sliders? Either way I'd love to see it in action.

Nothing really worth any pics yet..

Been slowly pecking away at the welding. I straightened the main frame and then tacked all the "X"s.

I've also got all the shackles (4) welded and 2 of the 4 arms welded.

Once I get the last 2 arms finished, I'll turn my son loose with the welder to finish filling in all the "X"s in the main frame. Probably at least another 2-3 weeks of "part-time" welding on this thing. Then, we can start on the fun stuff..

Quick update..

Finished welding all the pivot arms and shackles. Keep in mind, each one consists of 3 pieces of 3/8" plate welded around the perimeter and "plug welded" in the center. The 4th arm/shackle aren't in the picture..

My Son spent the better part of 2 days welding all the "X"s.. while I've been working on welding around the perimeter. He wasn't happy with the way some of the "X"s turned out, so he spent the past 2 days grinding all the welds flush. Probably another 2 hrs of work left on the main frame and it'll be ready to start initial assembly..

this is looking good

one thing i just noticed and must of over looked before is that your using a log splitter value
i dont know how your rams will be positioned but i used a log splitter value on a custom scissor lift i made for a customer and had to swap it out as it wouldnt stay in the up position (scissor extended up has ram retracted)

i ended up switching every thing out and and using a value with a closed center

the only reason i mention it is it doesnt do any good if your punch keeps wanting to rest in the die while your tring to set up a bend but like i said i dont know how you have it planned out and it might work fine but if you run into problems i can give you the company name and part numbers i use and a Reps. number if youd like theres prices were pretty good for the custom package i buy from them
