You can use 1/8th for a front bumper as long as you have the proper gusseting inside the bumper. Picture an I-beam. The reason why an I-beams so strong is because both horizontal plates are braced by a vertical gusset all the way through. Relatively thin I beams can hold ALOT of weight due to their design. That's my .02 but I could just be an idiot.

Ended up using 3/16" for 15 bucks more
