Use drivetrain from 89 f250?
I was planning on rebuilding my 4.2, (i have a 1990 YJ), but have a chance to pick up a low miles 89 f250 with the 351w EFI in it. My question is this, should I just swap in the full drivetrain from the Ford? Or am I better off mating it to the AX15 with adapter plates. I think the truck has a C6 in it and the 205. What problems will be encounter switching drive trains instead of mating it to the ax15?
Its not going to have a 205, it will be a BG 1354 or a 1356. 351 is a good motor but may not be well suited for a Jeep swap, IMO.
I'd check for local laws on such fun swaps. Here with emissions engine must be newer than vehicle. If you swap it it's all or none, unless you buy adapters(gets pricy quickly).
Not to mention the length of the drive train vs yj wheelbase.
Its gonna need xj springs!
