Tremec T-150 swap for Borg Warner T-5?
Will it fit?
'76 CJ7 with 304, Tremec T-150 3 speed and a Dana 20 transfer case.
I want a 5 speed, so I picked up a Borg Warner T-5 out of an '86 CJ7.
Why? Yeah, I know that the T-5 is a weak trans for rock crawling, etc., but my rig is very light duty. I want to increase mileage.
Will the bell housing fit? :confused:
How much longer is the T-5? Will my shifter and t-case lever be in a new location? :confused:
I realize that I probably need the Dan 300 transfer case. Will it bolt up with little modification? :confused:
Another Jeep guy told me that the .86 Overdrive gear would be too high geared, and I'd lose speed on the freeway. He also told me that it'd be really expensive to make the change. :rolleyes:

T4/T5 bellhousing for a 258. It will bolt up to the 304.
Dana 300...will bolt on
Skid plate for the T4/T5
That's all I can think of right now. What gears and tires are you running?
Ok, so how can I tell which bell housing is currently on this T-5? I bought it from a guy who got it from another guy, so I don't know what motor it had with it. Is there a way to tell?
if it has a 3 speed bolted to it-it's the wrong one, as simple as that! you need a T4/T5 1980-1986 bell housing. FYI- this is a very bad idea! T5s are very week transmissions.
If the bellhousing comes to a point at the top it's the correct AMC bolt pattern.
If it is flat and straight on the top, it's the wrong.
Just google image AMC bolt pattern for a picture. It's really obvious once you know what your looking for.
