Transmission Rebuild

I am planning to buy a cherokee but my brother mentioned that I may have to buy the transmission slips. I certainly do not know how to do this myself or rebuild a transmission so what would I expect to pay for a transmission rebuild/replace?

Also advice on any good shops in Redmond, WA area would be appreciated.

You'll need to ask the locals what shops they've had success with. A cheap transmission may be nothing but problems so I wouldn't recommend shopping by price. A used trans can be better then some of the rebuilds out there if your under a tight budget.

Manual or automatic ? Cherokee or Grand Cherokee ?

If you are asking about an XJ Cherokee, an automatic transmission rebuild will cost about $1400 give or take a few hundred. A cheaper option would be to buy a used low mileage transmission from the junkyard. Unless seriously abused, the XJ Cherokee automatic transmission should last the lifetime of the Jeep.
