Parts have been coming in, and learning a little more about the "stroker" tricks. I did get the Transmission back from the shop and the Engine shop should be done in the next day or two.








I've done a little brake line work as well, next will come a fresh of paint on the frame before the engine, etc... gets re-installed.

since your engine and trans are going to be rebuilt is there any thing your gonna do with the transfer case while its off?

its a rusty one

Thanks sxi4evr. lovett86 I've got a newer (lower mileage) Transfer Case with a SYE I plan on installing. The item(s) I need to address, but don't have is a set of upgraded axles.

Oh, I've also did a rear 1" tuck on the fuel tank, as well as move the forward mounts rearward 5/8". With the 1" body lift, this should help departure angles and axle clearances.

More parts have arrived AND Donnelly Machine, called and the rod are in the pistons, so I went and picked up everything, and paid the bill. Everything looks good, no machining to the rods small end to fit the pistons, so that was good. Now to start the engine re-assembly!


In addition to picking up the Engine Block, Head and Pistons from the machine shop I got the frame painted with the Chassis Black (still a little wet in these pictures). I'll still need to pull the wheels and paint the outer portions of the axles, but I can start re-assembling the drive train, that is as soon as it's all together. Now to start the Engine Assembly.

Well, today I was going through the parts inventory and browsing the manual making sure I was ready to start the re-build. While checking parts, I discovered I had the wrong pistons. I ended up with my first recipe attempt pistons that required the 4.2L rods and piston dish machining rather than the final selection that used the 4.0L rods and had a larger factory dish. So I'll return these pistons and rings and have the rods removed and installed on the correct pistons that the shop already has on order. Donnelly Machine has been great and I don't fault them they are helping a lot. I also received the new Venom fuel injectors and the Air/fuel Ratio Gauge as well as the push rod length gauge needed to select and then order new push rods. You can also see my old dirty problematic IAC valve and the new one in the first picture.

Thanks Lovett86. A nice set of Dana 60's would be sweet, but 9 rear and 44 front would work as well. I should be doing them now, but I'll kill a few 35 axle shafts for now, unless I find a set of axles at a great deal soon.

rite on, i just picked up a clean frame and a plastic gas tank for mine, id like to get an 8.8 for the rear of mine, 44's and 60's would be killer though

its a rusty one

Very Nice work! I'm interested in how you did the 1" fuel tank tuck, seems like a great idea. So your running a 258 crank, 4.0 rods and what factory pistons?

Kman1983, Thanks.

On the fuel tank tuck, I only tucked the rear of the tank my cutting it 1" below the mounting flange, and the welding the flange back on 1" lower than stock. I didn't tuck the front (axle side), there I only drilled new holed to more the tank back 5/8". I was looking to help my departure angle in the rear as with what wheeling I'd done, I was dragging the rear of the tank a lot.

Yep, a 4.2 Crank, 4.0 Rods, and will be using a shorter pin height piston to keep them from pooping up and out of the block. The pistons are: Keith-Black Silvolite (UEM) forged stroker IC944 Pistons, 21cc dish volume (30 over in my case). The shop ordered the wrong one, and they now have the correct ones on order now.

Well, the shop called, and they can't get the IC944 Pistons for 4+ weeks. So I've had to order them else where (slightly more expensive) and will take them in to the shop when they arrive. Still doing a little cleaning and painting on the Engine and parts.
