Rear end question?

I have a 90 XJ. My rear axle tubes came loose in the diff housing and the input shaft ended up pointing towards the stars and blew out the u- joint. I was driving on the street when this happened. Can anyone come up with an idea as to what caused it. Rear end did not lock up. all gears in the diff were fine. Brakes were all good too. I wasnt stompiing on the gas either just starting off from a stoplight when it happened.

the rosette welds failed. the majority of the damage itself was probably done at a previous time.

-insert meaningless out-of-place political diatribe-

it was probably previously hit hard or bent in some manner.
the gears and such may be "good" but you need a new axle anyways. may as well get something you want that's stronger.

'97 zj 5.2, some stuff, some other suff, and some things that even work sometimes.
