need engine swap help!

i'm posting this on a couple of forums as i need to get the swap done.
i'm helping a buddy (as i'm no mechanic) swap a 1981 cj 2.5L into my 1966 cj5a. used the novak kit and have the engine, tranny, and tc all bolted up together. it's just not fitting and we can't figure out why. it's all the way to the right as far as it cn go without hitting the frame and the bell housing still won't clear the brake pedal and linkage. i don't remember seeing this problem on the sbc swaps i've checked out in the forums, so why this little 4 banger?
any help will be greatly appreciated.

This is just a SWAG as I've never messed with that style brake linkage, but can you disconnect it, slide the engine/trans in, then reconnect?

no. the bell still makes contact at the correct mounting location for the engine and tranny. first will be pulling the heater. then i'll be switching to swing down style pedal and going with a hydraulic clutch. moving all that over a few inches should solve the problem.
