Cj CJ7 engine swap

I have a 1982 CJ 7 with a 258 with a auto t999 trans ..... I have a 1970 CJ5 with a 3.8 v6 with a three speed stick shift and a 1978 CJ5 304 v8 with a 4 speed stick shift I was wondering if I could put the 3.8 v6 with the 4 speed stick shift in my 1982 CJ7

Is that the Buick 3.8?

I would start by verifying which 4 speed you have and checking Novak's site for swap info. The main issues to figure out are bolting to transmission & engine mounts.

77 CJ-7- AMC 360, Edelbrock cam, MC2100, Fenderwells, CJ T18/D20, Chevy D44/EB 9" rear, Trutrac f/r, 4.11, SOA, 1.25 lift shackles, 35x12.50 BFG KM2s, Shackle Reversal

Why not just swap the 304 into it. The 4.2 is a solid motor.. will run for a long time

If you want something reliable then avoid the 3.8. I had '69 cj5 with a Buick engine and I couldn't have sold it fast enough. Find a 4.2 or use the 304 or a small block Chevy.

What's wrong with the 258 & TF that makes it unreliable?
