95 2.5 ltr swap with 89 2.5 distributor problem.
I just swapped my blown 95 model 2.5ltr with an 89 model 2.5 ltr. Everything up to this point has gone extremely smooth just bolt on old 95 parts onto the 89. everything so far has bolted on nicely. I am having trouble trying to get the 95 distributor which has the cam sensor in the distributor bolted onto the 89 motor. I placed the engine on the compression stroke TDC #1 and the oil pump slot slightly before the 10 o-clock position. Every time I try to seat the distributor it rotates slightly past the bolt hole for the retaining clamp. Everything I've read says to do exactly what I am doing but I can't seem to get it to line up properly. Has anyone every done this or could any one give me some expert advice on how to fix this issue. I counted the teeth on the old 89 model distributor and it is identical to the 95. The only diference I can see with the 89 distributor and the 95 is that the oil pump drive is in a slightly diferent position. The swap was done on my 95 YJ wrangler.
