50-52 m38 lwb?
4 Attachment(s)
I bought a Jeep which has had a custom restoration and is registered as a 64, but I am sure it is not a 64. Everything about it screams 52 M38 to me, the dash, styling and data plate. The only thing that has has me boggled is that area between the door and rear wheel well is huge. Were there any long wheel base models made during this time. Here are a couple pics.

My phone won't pull up the full pics right now, but the thumbnails look like a CJ6. made from 56(?) -75, they were basically the same as their CJ5 counterpart of the same year but with a 20" longer wheelbase.

IMO it doesn't look like an original body. Its too smooth. And not sure if the '6 should have the gas tank under the seat, but I don't see a filler neck for it. Front fenders look odd also.

Post some pictures of the grill and interior and maybe someone can give you more info

Thanks for the reply. The guy I bought it from restored it about 3 years ago, the fuel tank is now behind the seat. I didn't see the pics he had prior to the work being done. I am pretty sure it was a military model. I am in Thailand, there was an army and air force base up north, I think it was left when they pulled out. The data plates cover where the steering column would have been and the dash is cut for the right hand drive conversion.

Could be military. I've read they used the lwb version for field ambulances among other things. I don't know if they were also called m38s, or if they had another designation.

You may want to repost this in the CJ tech section. it gets much more traffic here and a lot of those guys will know more about it than I do.

Good luck and hope you find some answers

not 100% sure but my 55 M38A1 has reverse shackles on the front and that factory. if it has reverse shackles on the front then id say for sure its a M38 but then again the early ones might not of had that.

The time now is 01:40 PM.
