Ive been getting the the evil eye from my wife that my YJ isnt family friendly and more of a toy.. and some how I have too many toys She wants me to get a practical vehicle... I already got rid of my jet skis and my sporty 2 door coup, and feel I need to stand my ground on the jeep.. Besides I have so much time and fun into the YJ and finally running really well...
So I got to thinking... she likes the look of the new 4 door wranglers, more for room for the kids and dogs... hmm.... shouldnt be to hard to make my YJ a 4 door would it?. Ive seen people that have stretched theirs but has anyone put 4 hard doors on it as well? Just a thought and Im about ready for a new project. Thinking If I get a second frame and tub section, cut weld, new drive shaft, and stretch fuel lines, exhaust, and wiring. So am I over simplifying this? any thoughts? anyone do it? What are the main pitfalls of stretching a frame out.
I didnt see any posts where a 4 door YJ was done before but I may have missed it. Ill be sure to make a build thread if I do the build.
They made a long wheelbase YJ, called the YJ-L. Sold a lot in Egypt from what I understand. Something to look into maybe?
Black 95 YJ
2.5" on the suspension, 1" on the shackles, 2" on the body, 4.88 Superior Gears, 35" Goodyear MT/R with Kevlar, MSD-6 Offroad ignition box, Flowmaster Exhaust, Warn 9.5Ti Winch, Detroit Tru-Trac Front, Detroit Locker Back
Thanks guys, I think I killed the idea for right now, maybe not totally but for now. I would love to attempt the 4 door conversion to my YJ but I dont think I can get it done in a reasonable time frame with my work schedule right now and really hate not to have a running jeep for the fall season. Maybe once winter sets in and I dont plan to be using the jeep much. Also will give me more time to save up and locate a donor jeep.
