4.9 stroker or 383 conversion?

I've got a YJ, running ok as of now but the previous owner im guessing didnt know how to take care of a vehical properly. Body interior and exterior is perfect! but the motor is filthy, im doin my best to make her purr again but with 225000 miles and all the grime, its only so much i can do to stay within a fixer up budget before haveing to consider a HEART TRANSPLANT...
So my question is, Titan 4.9 stroker motor? or a 383 conversion. The titan is putting out numbers like 315hp and 345ft/lbs, at around 3300 on ebay. After looking at the 383 or even basic 350 and the adapter kits, im starting to wonder if the Titan may be the way to go. even has a 3 year 36000 mile Warranty .
SO....... any thoughts?

Depends on your skill, budget, and how you plan on using the jeep.

The stroker will be far easier to swap and will provide plenty of power for wheeling.

The SBC will be more expensive unless you really do your research and do most/all of the work yourself. You will need to upgrade the rear axle at a minimum and should go with a beefier transmission. There are many other things needed to complete a SBC swap.

It is totally up to you and what you want. But in the end a 383 build and the cost of the swap will be more expensive than a drop in 4.9 stroker.

I agree the SBC will be more work, nut remember that you will have to do many upgrades to get either from breaking the jeep. Axle is a must, the numbers they quoted will also mean needing all the goodies they put into it to make such numbers like header and exhaust. The fuel system will likely need some upgrading since that's double what it's feeding now.

Either way its a pricy endeavor.

Ha, IMO the only good engine dodge used was the Cummins, and that wasn't even theirs lol

Titan has a horrible reputation for their strokers. You get what you pay for. My Golen was more then that and it's only a 4.7. The SBC gets expensive real quick. And is more of a project.

If you want to do it right, built it yourself. As for a 4.9? Way over bored. I just sold a stroker project I stalled on. May do it again the right way. 30 over, wide(stock wide) lobes on the cam and mildly ported. We dont have race cars, we have jeeps. If you want your jeep to be a race car, get a good life insurance policy.

Its not a race car engine thing. Its production of usable power in the rpm range that you plan to be in. I was told to do this and change that. I built my SBC to be strong between 1000-4000, if I'm creeping its gonna put down enough to get me there, and if I have a long climb on some soft terrain I can give it a little more and get the wheel speed up keeping my tires clean. Its not a point of displacement or engine type but more of what you want to suit what you need. Some 37+ are in my future and want to be able to haul them up a hill, my old 2.5 wouldn't like that.

4.9 is a bit overboard (I'm building one now). And gets expensive. (When you buy the stroker it's just a block and head, you hav to add everything else)
Mine is sort of a freak. It was someone's dream motor that they couldn't aford when done. It puts out 330/375

I say stroker. You see 383s pop up all day on CL. The 4.9 stroker is something I'd respect.

Jeeps are good, amc design. Im not a fan of dodge, just preference. I work on them too, its always something ridiculous. Cummins powered is just the only one that i might think of buying.

"Hard to look cool when you're driving a dodge" was what we used to tell people. My buddy has an srt-4, more broke junk than its worth.

Back on topic- carry on!

So does anyone have and actual reviews on the Titan built motors? they seem to be throwing down the same numbers as the golen with their 4.6/4.7 stroker also 3year 36000 mile warantee. I think im talking myself into the stroker, not many people have it and everyone i know with the 350 383 always have that one weekend a month that they cant come out cause something is boke.
Also not looking to make a jeep race car haha that was pretty funny. I just like many other jeepers want that extra power to get up that hill turning our bigger tires.... and pullin out those of our buddies that are non jeepers
