I'm not going to pretend that I really know much about winches but after doing a fair amount of forum opinion research, I feel much more comfortable having a Warn.

Edit: nice timing Kev
Great minds think alike.

I use a Warn M8000, but had I not got the price I did, I was looking at that Rough Country Winch they had a special on last year. After a year, you should be able to get some decent feedback. It had some nice stuff on it as standard, like a wireless remote. Of course it could just as equally be junk.

I only know one person that has killed an M8000, but he gives new meaning to the term "stress testing". And of course he is getting it fixed under warranty (or at least most of it).

In all seriousness, I would spend the extra money on the Warn, and definetely spend the extra $100 on the M8000 over the VR series. It may be a tacky saying, but you get what you pay for.

I would stay far away from the quadratec winches. Im basing this on nothing but my opinions of quadratec

Depending on the weather next weekend, I'm thinking about a meetup at Sonic of Edgewater. Could more people make Saturday or Sunday? It would be for an early lunch, 11 or 11:30, because the place is always jam-packed at peak times.

I would vote for Saturday, but I think we are working on my skids this weekend and if so, I wont be able to make it. Sounds like a fun meetup, so hopefully we can make it a regular Balt/Annapolis/DC type monthly thing.

I think that failure might be related to some fun in the mud/water which is why I stay out of it

Ummmmm, yeah. I like to call Him a mudpuppy. I mean if you submerge your winch in thick mud for extended periods of time and then submerge it in deep water almost as much, I'm not sure even a Warn can be expected to hold up to that for long. Hehehe

I posted this in a couple other threads already, but it looks like a good deal, and from what I have seen its a decent winch.

Me? Snarky? Hahaha. Forgot about St Pads Day. No wonder there is less response.

So Dukie, when you going to set up, a Jessup meet and greet? I hear that they have plenty of room at the Truck Stop. And hookers too. Hehehe

Oh yeah, hope your move went well. You been to the flea market on rt 1 yet? Good place to pick up used power tools at a decent price and condition.
