Adam's show is ok, but I'm really ready for the PA Jeep in York!!!!

Does the 8.25 setup with the shims on the outside of the carrier bearings like the D35? Or some kind of adjuster as it looks like in this pic i found?

You could get yourself a dial indicator and magnetic base like this one (this is the one I have) Dial indicator. You'll just be adjusting backlash, which is the play between the ring and pinion gears, if you didn't pull the pinion gear out too. You'd be aiming for around .008-.010" of backlash which is checked by holding the pinion steady and rock the carrier back and forth with the dial indicator setup against one of the teeth. I'd have to do a little more research on how the 8.25 sets up before i could tell you how but backlash wouldn't be something i would shy away from trying yourself if your fairly mechanically inclined. You may also want to pick up a little gear marking compound just to check the pattern afterwards to make sure it all checks out.

That's exactly what I did. Seems to be okay now. With my luck I'll blow the rear end up anyways.

Haha, If you got the backlash back in spec and it's not making any noise, getting excessively hot, or anything I think you'll be alright. Did you run a pattern on it too and did it look fine?

Probably fine. If it goes it goes... just an excuse to re-gear

Alright lets get a list going of who's going to the Jeep show this weekend and when. We'll need to coordinate so we can all meet up somewhere.

2006sport: I'll most likely be going the 5th and 6th. If I go wheelin on friday then I'll only go the 6th.

OR

It seems like a lot of the other guys from MD who were going to this would only be able to make it on Sunday.

Maybe we should try to get a group to go wheeling Greenridge on Saturday and then hit up the Jeep show Sunday together.
