MD coverage laws

'Morning!
Rather than do the legwork myself, I figured I'd bother all of you. I'm transferring to DMA DINFOS on Ft. Meade, and was wondering about the various laws in MD concerning tire coverage, bumpers, off-roadlights and other things associated with our lifestyle. Do they have inspections there? What does that entail?

Here's the basic list:

Basic MVA inspections

You'll need the vehicle to be inspected prior to obtaining MD tags. You only need it to be inspected once while you own the vehicle.

Thanks. That's a good start. Any tire coverage laws?

Technically the whole tread of the tire needs to be covered but from my knowledge it's a secondary offense. Myself and a ton other guys I know in MD DD their Jeep with tires sticking out and have had 0 issues with the police. State troopers will really only hit you with it if you're driving like an idiot and making it dangerous for other drivers. In all honestly, you'll be fine. Though in order for it to pass inspection the tires DO need to be covered. Luckily inspection is once and that's it, so you'll need to grab some stock tires for it to pass.

Unless you get a fix-it ticket, right? Is that a full re-inspection or just the item in question?

Just the item in question. If you get pulled over for a busted tail light and get it fixed you have to go to a state police station and have them sign off on it. Thats what i had to do at least

No, that's right. It's just for the item that you received a repair ticket for.

I've heard of cops that will put anything that looks out of spec on that fix-it, though. Like window tint, etc.

For the wheels, the easiest thing to do, if you know someone that has them, is to throw some stock wheels on for the inspection. Another option is to get some extended fender trim.

Thanks all. I have an old shipmate with a commander, pretty sure they are the same bolt pattern. I'll grab his for the inspection. I'm going to have to finally get in and replace the fuse for my horn, too....
