No, only 6 years, but they were darn good years. Just separated from the Navy (wife is still active) and moved here on her orders. Looks like I got here just in time to see the last trails close in MD

Sadly, yes. Not many parks left on the East Coast, especially around us. But luckily folks are getting together and have a opened a few smaller parks in Pa.

If you feel up to a little hike, Rausch Creek is about 3 hours north and has everything you could want in an offroad park.

Welcome to the land of turbulent weather and excessive taxes.

Thanks. I am a little blown away by the property taxes. Our townhouse in HI cost me about $1100/year in taxes. That same price range would cost about $4500 here. Working on an inspection now, and it's $80?!!?!?! That blows me away. And everybody says Hawaii is expensive....

In Maryland, "If you can buy it, we can tax it."

(whispers) move to Delaware, no sales tax. (/whispers)

I dunno man, that's a hell of a commute.

On a completely different topic, where does the avatar setting hide? Do I need a minimum number of posts to set one, cause I can't find it anywhere.

Gotta buy a membership, then they give you access to that ability.

HI has nothing on us as far as cost of living. We wreck the list! Wait till you want to get something done by a mechanic, plumber, electrician, lawyer, etc. That's why they say the poverty income level in this area runs around $45,000. At one point there was a proposal in Montgomery County to raise the min. wage to....wait for it....$12/hr.

Yeah...as soon as you can....get out of this area. I was born and raised here, but had the fortunate ability to travel throughout the states (suspect you've had some flavor outside MD and HI too) and this is not a good area if you are real decent person. If you are a money grubbing, greedy, lying, corrupt, kinda person...you'll fit right in. About the only area I know to be worse is south Florida and LA area.

Whaddaya know, I've lived in both of those places as well. I believe that, as bad as a place may be, there are always quality folks around and things to make the place worthwhile. I actually loved LA, at least anything in LA that didn't involve a film crew and detours.

In HI, the average starting wage was about $9/hr, with 10-12 not out of the question for basic work (think fast food, etc). Actually, if you are a server/bartender, there's probably no better place to live. They pay full wages to their servers, plus any tips. They can do very nicely indeed.

Wow, I sure can hijack a thread. As you were, people.
