Maryland guys Tag question

I got temp tags on my Cherokee that expired in Nov. I still need to do a few stuff to the jeep to get it inspected though, and even then idk if it will pass.

The mva says you can only get ONE 30 day temp tag. Can I do to a local tag & title place and get one from them now, even though I got one from the mva?

I really want/need to drive it so I can get it alligned and all that good **** before inspections. Though I can't with it not having current tags/registration.

I am sure you probably cant do it, but I just am wondering how that works and am hoping you can.

you may be able to get an extension, or apply for a new one

best thing to do would be to call them - they know their system better than anyone


A bit of advice though - Maryland is one of the strictest states (if not THE strictest) when it comes to safety inspections. I strongly advise you to think about making sure your jeep meets all the height requirements and all your bushings are in top notch condition (maybe consider putting smaller tires (235s?) on to solve the height issue just for inspection). If you are just a little over height they may overlook it, but if you are blatantly over the height restrictions during the initial inspection they're gonna be REALLY strict on the re-check. I have a checklist from when i had mine done that the inspectors use i can scan and PM you tonight when i get home if you want.

x2 i failed once and found a shop i could pay a little extra at to not fail me. Do the alignment yourself, its not hard.

As far as I know you can not get any sort of new temp tag or extension in MD.

Shops in MD that will take it easy on you for inspection are few and far between.

Can you not use tags off another vehicle to get it to and from the alignment/inspection stations? Just don't speed or break the law and you shouldn't be bothered. If you are pulled over, explain your situation.

More things to help:

The biggest things for you are going to be max bumper height of 28" (to bottom of bumper), and making sure your fender flares cover ALL of your tire width

I know all the inspection stuff, I just was hoping I could go someplace else to get a temp tag or an extention so I can drive it so if it doesn't pass the first time I can still drive it. Lol

basically I miss driving it!

yea, i really don't know how to handle your situation, you're supposed to get it inspected within 60 days of getting the temp tags. Best give them a call.

I do that already, I'll be driving a mile down the road anyway. Lol though I really don't want to have to do that.

I didn't say drive it around like that...

When buying a vehicle is it not okay to do just that though? I was under the impression that it was. I bought my Jeep from a county sheriff and he told me to bring tags off another vehicle for transport

Bottomline in Maryland if you have used up your one 30 day tag:

1) tow it
2) sell it

THAT'S it. You can't park it on the street, you can't even park it in your hard in many counties now without registration (rear yards excluded...I think). I know Montgomery County just outlawed any vehicle from being parked on non-paved surfaces, or not being registered in any portion of property (I'm sure except when under cover (aka carport) or garaged. That's means you Randolf Road people...LOL.

Thank god. Randolph road is a cluster ****

MoCo outlawed parking on grass? I move my Jeep to the side of the road every morning for my dad so he can get out and that's on the grass.


As far as transporting a new vehicle or taking a vehicle to get inspected. Throw some tags from another vehicle on it. If you get pulled over, tell them what you're doing and where you are going. My dad is a cop, he knows lol. I have many friends that are cops too. But honestly, if you aren't driving like an idiot you shouldn't get pulled over on your way to the inspection place.
