Wharton Forest

Hey guys, a couple of us are headed to Wharton forest this weekend for a little light wheeling trip. None of us have been and do not know what to expect, any advice, suggestions?

pack a lunch, stay out of water when temperatures are near freezing.

Thanks! Is this more of a fire road type place or is there a lot of water? I am assuming you saying to stay out of the water means there are alternatives ways around the water holes.

most of it is fire roads. there are some up and downs that are fun. Most mud holes have a go around, be careful though some of them are DEEP and don't look it. Bring a yardstick and measure the depth and firmness before you go in. You'll thank me later. Staying in the Wharton Hotel is not fun.

If you guys have room for another rig on Sunday I might be able to make the trip down.

Ok I can't do sat but I can meet up with you guys Sunday if your still wheeling then. I've often found Atsion Ranger Station to be a good meeting spot, unless you have a better location. Also what time would be good for you guys?

yes, mostly fire roads. yes, there's a lot of water.
Don't go thru any 'puddles' unless someone in the group has a winch!!! Just IMHO. You should get lucky though, I'm guessing all the mud is frozen lol!

Hey I know this is kind of last min but I know the trails in Wharton like the back of my hand, myself and a few others are supposed to go out a little later on today, you could join if you'd like. We get into some mud but there are go arounds for everything that you are uncomfortable with going through.

I wish I would have seen this post sooner... We had so much fun on Saturday, we got a hotel in Egg Harbor ( 30 minute drive) and wheeled again this morning.
