If the place is illegal, that attitide is what will get people ticketed, give the responsible people a bad name.
I see all over the forums, people crying.. "Why are all the places closed, getting closed, blah, blah, blah..." The "I don't give a crap" attitude, plus the general apathy present within our sport is one of the main reasons I walked away.. although, I'm still commenting here, so not totally yet, I guess... I just couldn't fight the irresponsible a$$es out there, more of them than of me, so...

If its legal, then, by all means, people should go there and drive it..

BUT, what I can't figure out is why NOT ONE person who has read and posted here, who obviously has the time to read and post here, hasn't taken the few minutes to phone the town clerk's office and find out if indeed its still an open road.

Normally, I would have... someone else can do it now. I have tons of private land to wheel on all over New England, so I don't care anymore... but for the rest of you... ??

I have heard of one KINDA LEGAL place to go around Southern Conn. Atwater Road in Bethany CT.

Now from what I've heard, it's a street. That's it. Undeveloped & fun! My buddies have been going there for months now, and from what they told me, they've never gotten caught. It's a very long, dead-end street. There is one house, on the corner of Atwater & the main road, but that's it. I've been told that you'll notice it isn't safe for cars. Too many steep inclines & declines. I haven't been able to get up there yet, but I thought I'd pass the info along.

My buddy told me that the trails are very long, and there's a lot of mud pits & a few rock inclines. The only thing is, you don't want to come out the same way you came in. He said he cops don't exactly mind, but would rather not have mud all over the streets. I'm just passing along what I was told.

I have a Google Earth map of the area. Apparently the trails do connect to other streets closeby.

But I have to say, I agree with Toxic Turtle. We should be careful of the environment & any illegal wheeling. I would hate to ruin the experience for other wheelers & future wheelers by doing something illegal & making the situation worse for everyone else.

I've run this trail, and it really wasn't anything special. I made it through everything with no issue with my ZJ with a BB and 30"s. Anything bigger tire wise, and it really wouldn't have been much fun. I'm really not sure of the legality of it either.

Its going well, ended up buying my tries slightly used for another $400. So got a decent wheel and tire package for $500. Good stuff. Just put full steel bumpers on my XJ front and back, slow build but its all coming together

I'm in New Milford.
I'm planning to go to the Great American Jeep Rally in Sept. I've been looking for a Jeep meet in Connecticut. Hope to see you all there!
