You'll also need someone to give you a ride home when/if your jeep gets impounded

Is it not legal at all to go there? From what I have read people are still driving through.

Here's the rule of thumb told to me by the ranger that manages the park: If you can see blazes painted on the trees then its a hiking trail and not open to vehicles.

I'm going to be up there this Saturday. I'll be leaving New Haven at around 830-9. Going to take a drive on some of the roads up there and check it out. Its Me and another guy with a 95 YJ. Just gonna take a cruise.

i know from personal experience that youll be just fine. just keep off the power lines and no one is going to bother you. Its like the last place in CT that you can drive in.

I was about to make a thread about this place but found this one on the top of the front page. Awesome.
Let me know how it goes, I'd like to take my jeep up there at some point. I hear different things from different people about how legal it is.

The bottom line is if you go anywere that 4WD is actually required then its not legal. Some of the officers on the ground may cut some slack . . . but others won't.

It is legal to drive through but only on the service/fire roads. Techno is right if you NEED 4wd to be there, youre not supposed to be there.

im sorry but thats kind of a dumb statement. although nepaug you can go through in 2wd theres plenty of private property that 4wd is needed and you can be allowed there legally

I did not know we were talking about private property in that area. I thought we were talking about trails within CT State Forest? If you know something about private property in that area then please do tell.

well I met some people up there while on the trails and basically if the trails to narrow, they are to narrow to drive and to stay off them. haven't ran into any trouble yet. I see a lot of trucks and jeeps driving around there and they all just wave. Everyone says to stay off the power lines and you'll be fine for the most part.

I was talking to my buddy last night at a party who went to Nepaug the other weekend. He said he didn't get in any trouble and that it's a pretty good place to go wheeling.
How tough was it? Think it'd be ok for a first time wheeler?
I'll definitely have to take a ride out there one it starts warming up.
