Mettowee mud fun

A group of us went to Mettowee yesterday and had a ball!
The trails were really, really slick and some were impassible (and for me, impossible).
This was my 1st time out with the LJ, limited slip D44 in back, open D30 up front, 33" Dayton somethings. Definitely didn't have the right tire, I struggled with the clay heavy mud.
My son in law made it all look too easy in his Ox locked and rear spooled YJ on 35's.
Both Cherokees did surprisingly well with just 31's and open diffs.
Not doing so well was the Grand Cherokee on stock road tires, he high centered on EVERYTHING and struggled with the mud and rocks, but was game to try anything, as long as a strap or cable was nearby.
Here's a few photos below and more here...

This past weekend was planned to be the end of the season for them...
We saw only 4 other rigs all day. Our next trip will likely be in the Berkshires, a little closer to home for most of us, and just something different.

Mettowee is definitely a cool place, real laid back, no excessive rules...

Here's a few more photos for you lazy bums that didn't click on the link above:
(OK, maybe you're not lazy)
These should give you a good idea what to expect there.

Stripperguy,

What is the mud to rock ratio up there. I'm more into the rock thing. Don't mind mud. Just don't prefer it. The wife and I just had a little boy back in July so didn't do any wheelin this year but looking forward to next year!!

jeepmike,

There's plenty of rock, we mostly avoided the steepest stuff. A lot of bony spines and slabs sticking out from under the leaves... There are uphills that I don't think I could climb even with my fully locked CJ! Congrats on the little guy, if you look at my linked photos you'll spy my grandkids, not that much older than your little fellow1

Mr 2,

Where is that exactly? I was stuck almost immediately trying to climb up from Hell's something or other...slid on the crazy slick mud/clay and nearly dropped into a stream bed. Could've ended up like you if not for some sticks and rocks that stopped my slide!!

Not sure the name of the area but its the wide area just past the obstacle course at the far end, just across from where most people camp.
If that makes any sense... lol
I'll see if I can post a pic....

I see you are in Schenectady.
I split my time between my place in Colonie and the GF's place in Schenectady. Mostly in Schenectady, though.

And Link, I am working in Malta as well. At Globalfoundries.
Also have a ton of friends in Qbury/ Glens Falls area.

Have either of you joined Destination Jeep?
Great peeps!

Hey! I know that spot! We climbed up that same hill, took a hard left at the top and then wiggled through the trees and came down the steep slope to the edge of the mud pits/obstacle area. You can see the one Cherokee crawling down in my photo...and our buddy with the Grand Cherokee got stuck going downhill!! He got high centered and slid crooked when trying to back uphill, eventually ended up with a 3 foot stump blocking him.
We winched him back uphill and he finally made it down...

How was your Jeep after that rollover? Any permanent damage?
