Over the years -- traveling along the power-line trails - doing a sedate 3 - 5 MPH - with my gray hair flapping in the breeze and my NRA hat on straight --- waveing - "Hello" to the crews working on the lines ----- never had a problem ---
Now if I was a 20 year old -- doing 90 with my hat on sideways - blasting getto music
I was once a tree house.
I lived in a cake.
But I never saw the way - the orange slayed the rake --
Im in eastern Suffolk County.
There are a few good wheeling areas around the island. Basically from personal experience if there is no sign and or no gate it kinda falls under public domain. For instance there is an unfinished road about 1 mile off near the end of the LIE, this unfinished road has no signs, no gate or pavement. But I have been stopped there because one side of the road is for hunters, cop asked if i was hunting i said "no" and then he let me carry on.
I'm going to agree with Rickekila that driving up and down power-lines is partly legal if no sign is posted. Driving like a normal person and not like a rally drive lets you get away with things.
Any way if anyone is still reading this PM me if you want to get a group together or something.

Feel free to browse LI Wrangler on facebook (work firewall wont let me access facebook to link here). We are a group of about 500 long island wrangler owners (and a few non wranglers for flavor) who meet up and organize events.. i think you would like what you find.

LMAO. It's pretty unlikely you'd pick up any rads just driving through, but quite likely you'd get in some sort of trouble for being on DOE property... This is Brookhaven National Laboratory... I worked there 2006-2007
Jumping into an old thread here. So I'm staying on the island for the summer, specifically the port jefferson area. Today I happened upon a promising looking trail on Sheep Pasture Rd if anyone is familiar with that area. I thought I'd throw it out there and see if anybody would be interested in meeting up and going to check out the trail with me, or possibly show me around to some other trails in the area as I don't really know anybody else with a 4x4 around here and I'm dying to get on some trails soon. Anyway let me know
