I just talked to Jason, the facilities director, about the garage that was formerly used by the Auto Club. The garage is now part of the warehouse, and is full of stuff. All the tools (what little there was) was either thrown out or consolidated with the school's maintenance shop, as they were told the tools were all state tools. He said that it is highly unlikely the school would even let us have a garage on campus, even if there was space. For one, the Auto Club was abusing the privilege of having it by having parties there at night. Also, it was too much of a liability as kids would be working on their cars there at night, with no supervision. So if something happened, no one was around to help. And especially since that kid died changing his oil under the bridge, the school and their insurance company are not going to want anyone working on their cars without supervision on campus. Also, there is no space for it. And, the garages they have probably would not fit lifted rig at all. They are pretty small.
So basically we can forget about that completely.
Now just throwing some stuff out there. As an alternative, we could see if we could use club funding to rent space in a garage somewhere off campus, and close. Idk if that would be allowed at all, or if we could even find anywhere, but its a thought.
So it looks like we gotta focus on off-campus activities such as wheeling trips. When I mentioned offroading to Jason, he said people have "offroaded" across the Admiral's lawn in the middle of the night lol, so we may want to be careful on how we present this.
Someone want to copy this and post it on facebook?
