I Hate NY

Took an hour ride from home today to go to one of the only places i knew of to wheel legally, to find a gate mid way down the trail. posted, keep out, water supply something or other yada yada yada, and the thing that kills me.... is there is nothing down there except a small stream.
i'm so sick of being fenced out of public land. i gotta get out of this state, for a number of reasons.
i just needed to vent my frustration about todays findings. sorry for wasting forum space.

Yep... NY sucks. Patterson is ****ing us over, and we really are living a strained life now. I have almost considering leaving for Texas to hit up my Uncle since it sucks here so much.

Texas! From ny to texas, better slow it down some after you arrive, they will spot that ny yankee bloodline in 2 seconds. Buy a big hat, and talk very slow.

I am not seriously going. It was just a mild consideration. Maybe after college. It all depends on what kind of work is out there. NY really does suck, and I prefer a slow relaxed life style.

If you like the laid back lifestyle definatley consider moving to Texas! You don't have to buy a big cowboy hat, a horse, boots, or start chewing tobacco. haha
Everyone here is very friendly, they might pull your leg a little about being from NY but no big deal.
There are plenty of state parks and privatley owned wheeling spots and if you make the right friends chances are they own land or know someone who does.
The landscape here is very diverse. Everything from mountains and deserts out west, Piney woods in the east, central plains, the hill country and a huge coastline!
Of course smaller towns have more conservative values but places like Austin are more liberal and open-mined.

This is starting to sound like a brouchure of why you should move to Texas lol!

Just my 2cents, what area is your uncle located in?

San Antonio. I do want to visit some day. I might just have to plan a trip out there next summer (2 weddings, and transferring college, so I don't think I will have time this year).

Wait... how did the OPs rant turn into my thread

Join a club. While our club and it's alliance clubs don't have too many local places here in NY, we do have access to a bunch of properties in CT, MA, VT.

Come to a meeting and see what we're about.

There is a meeting tonight. Just get on our website: www.hv4w.org

I didn't know the President of HV4W was a member here. Kenbo-Slice I know goes to some meetings and trips, and you guys both live in Poughkeepsie which is right across the river from me.

I am still Jeepless, and Sadly the boss lady (my mom) won't let me wheel a DD.

I will definitely Join after college though. I hear you guys have access to some awesome land. I did think of possibly going to some meetings this year though. It all depends on how things go. I will try and see what I can do. For now, I am just learning and planning my build thanks to JF.

You might consider checking out:

Mettowee offroad park

Unless the 4wd crowd decides to get serious about political action then there is no future in wheeling on public land. Private land will be the only real option.

You are right down the road from a pretty popular 4wd association.
