Heres a friendly heads up on 909
You may want to scale back the group rides because a few people are getting pissed off.
Some ( I dont know who ) are leaving trash in the woods

Ok then. Let's start planning a trip to Rausch Creek! No worries there.

Trash

as long as it's none of us then we should be fine. I hate picking up others trash but we may just have to start. I enjoy it there to much to lose it because some people are slobs!!

But if it was never legal to begin with... we never had it. I'd like to see some proof that it is legal for us to be back there. Just to clear things up.

No, that's not how it works. How it works is: Off-roaders go there on weekends, locals take a hike during the week and see crap and get pissed, then locals tell area mgrs and place gets shut down. The scenario has noting to do with which off-roader did what. Good guys loose more than bad guys since they went through the extra effort to be nice and still get locked out.

The only way to help is do exactly that, and hope the folks who may see crap and complain don't get a chance to see the crap at all.

The other aspect of the problem is general overuse. A group or two every weekend, maybe both days of the weekend, will tear up the place more than maybe organizing a monthly ride. That location is also mostly dirt covered as I can see from the photos (I live 5 miles from there but never go), which means more traffic is very much more noticeable, unlike a rocky trail.

Since I don't go there, the only way this effects me personally, and why I am concerned, is that any complaints to a formal park type agency about 4x4 activity gets noticed. All these isolated bad press things get added up at higher levels and can end up with NYS (CT, MA, wherever) tightening the screws even more.

I have been wheeling in 909 for years and never saw another person wheeling in the area (camping, yes, but wheeling no). With all the chatter on the Forum, I thought this might happen. The area is not totally LEGAL for wheeling, but it was not exactly ILLEGAL either. I'm sorry to see that it appears to be ruined now for those of us who wheel quietly and responsibly and leave no footprint.

i spoke with the same park ranger on that day... i guess what had happened was people were driving off the trails through the only bog turtle habitat in the state and locals were complaining. as long as you don't go off the normal trails you'll be fine. all the trails your not suppose to go down are clearly marked with red no vehicle beyond this point signs.

If I'm Still Driving At The End Of The Day, Then It Was A Good Day Of Driving

I guess I should get over there some time and see what the hoopla, if any, is all about. Tomorrow is going to be nice (68 deg and sunny), but they are installing Verizon FiOS TV for me tomorrow, so that's out. Then a rainy weekend (cool, be able to check out the 350 channels), so maybe not until next week.

I had a feeling this was going to happen. It is the main reason why I haven't gone on the last few rides. I think we should all lay off of 909 for a few weeks, to let things settle out. Maybe even get a group of guys together to WALK some trails and so a little cleaning up.

thats what i was thinking, maybe if we helped clean the area up a bit people would have less of a problem with us there. but i agree we should prob lay low for a while. i like that rausch creek idea though!

The Rausch Creek does sound like a good idea! Plus, 909 gets boring as hell if you go too often. These guys that go every weekend have to be getting tired of the same trails.....
