XJs and doors

So what's the deal with taking the doors off XJs in Pennsylvania?

Legal? Illegal? Legal but you'll still get hassled by the cops? Illegal but nobody cares?

This (http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/06...5/s175.77.html) says that if the vehicle came from the factory with doors, it has to have doors on it (looking at you, Wrangler drivers). Obviously nobody bothers the Wrangler guys because "well, it's a Jeep!" But what about XJs?

Illegal. Read the vehicle code, it spells it out... Your sides or top has to be removable to be allowed to go doors off.

Your hinges are bolted on... ours have pins and lift off from the factory. Not sure why you'd want to go doorless on an xj anywsys.

They are removable. Unbolt. Remove.

Maybe there's something obvious I'm not thinking of, but what would be considered "removable sides"? Doors ARE sides.

What about half doors (something like this: http://i.imgur.com/tWp7sRM.jpg) or tube doors? Are they legal?

And I was pointing out how foolish the laws are. Pull your head out of your a$$ and lighten up. Sheesh.

Isn't there a question of whether the doors are (in theory?) a safety feature or not? Jeep goes out of its way on Wranglers to make it clear that the doors are not and thus removal of them doesn't increase danger. I'd guess most other vehicles where doors are not made to be easily removeable that is not the case and so removal of doors is removal of material safety feature of the vehicle.

Ive wandered this..

There are so many jeeps of all flavors and verities in my area of PA.
I have yet to see a doorless XJ.

Anyway, If you wheel an XJ, I find that trying to hang out the window (spotting while crawling) to be painful on the left underarm/pit area. Im sure fellow XJ'ers know what im talking about... thus wanting to remove the door.

I wouldnt mind going doorless, but i have to much in my jeep.
I do like the tube doors out, but will most likely end up getting some junkyard doors and cutting them up..

Yeh I can see that on the trail, but driving down the highway it would look abit weird.
