We take trips down to wharton every now and then -- there are a few local spots.

If you post on here, there are always some people going out to Wharton (about 50 min drive from St Joes in Jersey) and Rausch Creek (about a 2 hour drive into the pocono areas).

Wharton is free and legal, Rausch Creek is pay, but legal. Im just over the bridge on the Jersey side myself...PM if your looking to go out.

Usually it's Wharton, or Reading Anthracite Company for me.
You need an annual permit to ride RAC's coal properties at $100 per person for the year.

From the RAC website:
Reading Anthracite Company Access Permits will be available beginning January 17, 2011. The cost will be $125.00 per person. There are no group or family rates. The permits will be good for the calendar year 2011.

Permits will be available at our Pottsville office:
200 Mahantongo Street, Pottsville
Monday thru Friday 8 :00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Office will be closed Good Friday.

All individuals, regardless of age, must come in person to apply for a permit.
