I've been up through there this year. It's really not challenging at all. If you have absolutely nothing else, go up right after rains. Search Old Railroad Road too. Take a nav and just drive around. I can't see anyone getting in a situation where they need help getting out. There isn't much real soft stuff to be had.

Don't fear the regear!

I know this is an old thread, but where does everyone take their jeeps up at Michaux? All I know of are the ATV trails.

There are a bunch of dirt roads all over the area. One is right near the main office on Rt.30, one goes up to the upper reservoir.
click maps after this link.....

Don't fear the regear!

I'm in Waynesboro, so very close to Michaux. Definitely easy trails, mostly old logging roads. Fun though and very nice scenery in places!

I usually start @ the old Deer Lodge & end @ Cold Springs Rd in Mount Holly. I know that Michaux (Ridge Rd) runs just beyond Newville. I think it is best for a scenic cruise thru the woods with no obstacles.

It is best to go up after it snows or a big rain...otherwise it's like driving up a stone driveway. There may be a mud puddle or small hill to climb to keep it fun...but that's about it.

There are some smaller trails that run out thru the woods to either side of Ridge Rd, but best to have another vehicle with...just I case.

I just went here 2 days ago and we had a blast . 2 jeeps . We just went on some back roads and if u look while driving you will see turn offs where other jeeps or 4 wheelers made some cool trails through streems and such. We prob drove 9 hrs with out seing another person . Thats how many roads thair are.Im ure its a big no no but their are trails through the power lines we saw that looked endless. we diddnt go that far.Its only 30 min from my house so i will be going again soon. It has taken me 3 days to clean my jeep off after this trip
