so there's a WJ that I'm wanting to buy use for my swap. I just needed to check a couple things before I did.
story:
he purchased the wj in 09 and never transfered the title over to his name. drove it for a year, and its sat since due to needing new pistons.
so with that being said... I'm assuming there would be some sort of penalty for not registering this thing for ~3 years or so....in the state of TX what sort of penalty fees am I looking at having to pay when I go to register and title this thing? anyone know?

Should just be the normal fees.
I would make sure you would be able to get hold of the person who is named on the title. Although as long as the current owner hasn't signed anything on it you should be able to transfer it just fine.
Of course I'm just speaking from my experiences. You can always call the registration office to get the info you need.

What he said. I actually still haven't gotten my ZJ registered because the woman I bought it from had only owned it for a couple weeks before giving up on the PCM issue and so hadn't changed the title to her name. As such, when I went in with both our signatures on the title (she assured me it'd be fine; I took it with fulfilled skepticism) the woman at the DMV said that it was no bueno and I'd have to either get the named owner to come in in person or get a bonded title. I didn't wanna risk the first (I have a friend who tried that, but the guy just stole the car back and left my friend with no recourse) and I haven't had time or money for the second.

So watch out for that title. A bonded title is a hassle and you can't get it registered if it's not properly titled.

For registration penalties, I am sure each county is different. I had to pay for a 60 day late fee, $500 in Collin County.

I would bet that you while probably have to pay for each year previous.

Check your County Tax Collector website.

You shouldn't have to pay any penalties if you are buying it, the penelties are accessed to an owner who hasn't registered it in awhile

I should be getting out tomorrow, finally, to check a salvage in Kennedale for parts. I know they have a few WJ bodies, but I don't know if any of them are intact. I'll let you know.

Found a WJ body you might could use, Kristi. Check your emails.

In other news, there's apparently some super mud my buddy Scott found. Since I'm not set up for trailing and I can't afford it anyway, I'm gonna hit it in the morning. Anyone wanna join in?

If any of you guys end up at a salvage yard again anytime soon keep an eye out for a good d30. Mine is bent.
I prefer one out of a limited with qudradrive, but as long as it has 3.73 gears I'd be interested.
Any help would be appreciated

Kristi told me she had one, not sure if it's Vari-lok or not, but maybe get in touch with her. I don't plan on hitting any salvages in the foreseeable future, though. Godspeed.

So I got my ZJ dirty today. Ton of fun, I don't do it nearly often enough. Scott took a video of some of the fun:

Yeah I've talked with her a little and I might just have to take it off her hands. Only thing is its had/has problems with the inner c.
And I do believe its exactly what I need, variloc with 3.73s. Plus I could help build the funds for the new build
