Looking to get some gears

Hey Guys, I am looking into getting some gears for the D44 in the garage. I'm not sure what brand. I wish I could spring for a locker, but I am probably going to just get a new carrier. Let me know what you guys think. Oh and I'm going with 4:56

Whats your lift size and tire size?

stockerokie 01-28-2013 04:06 PM

OME 2.5 SL, 1.25 JKS BL, 33x10.5 and right now if have 3:07 gears.

4.56 Will do fine with 33's but if you ever upgrade i would go ahead and do 5.13s

Whats up John? The gears i bought for my new front axle are Motive which i got at EAst Coast Gear . I have heard good things about them and ECG said they were a good choice so i went with them. I have had good luck with superior gears, as thats what in my front axle. We also put some Yukon gears in my buddy Jody's jeep a few years ago and they have also held up great.

The only thing gear wise would be a locker. I am happy with how capable my jeep is. I just want to know what 5th gear feels like.

Willis I was thinking superior. I guess is need a master install kit too? Would you help me in trade? I hear crown goes a long way. Lol

Yeah you will need a master install kit. I will happy to help you, but i will most likely have you do all the work and just tell you/show you what to do, that way you can say you set up the gears yourself...:D

I don't mind turning a wrench as long as I know what to do. Ill make a brew and have you guys over for some brews and gears.

Should I get a new carrier or try to find a used one?

SlackJaw 01-29-2013 10:33 AM

well one of you guys needs to get on it, I don't know why for sure, but I get a bit of a stiffy looking inside diff covers :o :D Seeing some replaced and set up would probably send me over the edge :D

You should get a new carrier, one made by ARB or OX....:D Since your d44 most likely has a trackloc lsd, you will need to not only get a carrier, but all the internals as well, as yours will not transfer over. I think you can get thick cut gears instead of a new carrier, but you would have to research that.

SlackJaw especially if there is a locker involved.
Willis those both sound great, I'll ask the boss for a raise tomorrow. It has a open carrier 3:73 gear. As far as internals you mean the internals in the carrier. Does the master install come with bearings? If I add a locker later on can I reuse the gears?
