Sounds good Matt, I do need to call the forest service to double check that it is open, I think it should be. I also need to get a new tapered sleeve for my currie adjustable trackbar. About a month ago I had the mounting bracket go bad and it had some play causing DW and a bad clunking noise. It came back this week and i pulled the trackbar off and the tapered sleeve was broken in half. I'm hoping that is what was causing my DW this time and not another broken mounting bracket. I will have to see. Either way, it will be fixed by this weekend.

Can I go?

I'd like to go. If you guys wouldnt mind.

My XJ is pretty capable but it is limited right now with open/open diffs, and no front recovery point, winch bumper or winch. I also only have a stock size spare, I do however have a small air compressor and tire repair kit so which ever works in an event I need to use one or the other... what ever gets me back down.

So let me know. I will be with my girl and 2 kids (6yr olds)... This will be only our 2nd time wheeling.

I have a thread here about my first trip this last Sunday w/ pics....

Everything sounds fine with your rig except that you really should get some tow points if you are going to wheel it at all.

Just called the forest service and they said it is open. I am off to get a new tapered sleeve for my track bar and hopefully the problems will be fixed with my rig. Fingers crossed!

I assume you still can't go all the way to the top though?

A friend of mine gave me a tow hook to attach underneath the front but I dont have the means of getting it on yet... I need a sizable drill bit and the right tool to crank it down once it is on....

This about what I have to attach to the front somewhere:

What you need is a set of frame tie in brackets. What they do is attach the tow hook to the 3 bumper bolts and they extend back and tie into the unibody a little bit past the sway bar mount. I would give you my old set, but I gave them away about a week ago to another XJer in need.

Here is what you need:

http://www.jeeperz-creeperz.com/front-hook-p-6752.html
----------------------------------------------------------
Some companies are selling knock off versions that do not have the unibody tie in portion and are basically just for looks. These will not work for an actual recovery situation. Here is one of them:

http://collinsbros.stores.yahoo.net/xjtowhookbra.html

Without that bar that extends back and ties into the unibody, it will rip out the bumper mounting holes in any real pull.

I asked about conditions and the lady I talked to said that they never closed it this year and nobody has been up it since last fall so I have no I idea what it will be like towards the top. On a good note, I installed the new track bar sleeve and my steering problems are fixed!

I have a feeling that we should be able to get pretty far up this trail, if not all the way up. But if we don't make it very far, we can always run Slaughterhouse on our way back. The forest service said that Red Cone and Webster are closed and will likely be closed until at least July 4th.
