Hc 6/10/12

First time on Holy Cross and it was awesome. Honestly tougher than I expected. Not too many pics, only two of us and we were spotting each other most the time. Heres a few...

Left Hand Canyon with my ZJ

Took my ZJ up to Left Hand Canyon today for our first trip together. Many of the trails have been closed as most of you probably know but there are still some good runs up there. Had a great time and it was great to get out of the Denver heat today. Didn't take a lot of pics today but here's a few. My buddy came along too with his stock Cherokee.

Nice day on the trails

Went up for another day trip yesterday to break in July. Took the ladies this time so decided to go for easier trails with good scenery. We chose the St. Mary's glacier area, north side of Idaho Springs off of Fall River Road. Tons of trails back in there. They just seem to go on forever. Most of the trails are quite easy but the views were spectacular. Good place to go for a little day trip with the wives and dogs. We hardly saw anybody out there so we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. It was a lot of fun and can't wait to go back. Took the I-70 route to get up there, exited Fall River Rd. (exit 238) toward Alice. We began the day on Cumberland Gulch Trail and made our way through miles and miles of different trails. Toward the end of the day we pointed east and ended up on a road that led us to CR119 which took us into Central City. Took 6th Ave back into Golden and then home. Nice day! I recommend this area for anybody looking for a nice day on the trails but not looking for anything too hard core or technical.

Went up Barbour Fork today with the stock '06 WK today. Was a beautiful drive with some good obstacles for the stock Jeep! Here's some pictures from the day.

Looks like you hit it at a better time than I did. Here's pics of my Red Cone trip from a few weekends ago. Sorry if this is pretty pic heavy guys, figured I might as well contribute what I got. I did have a bit of trouble on the one rock you'll see in the two pics, it sticks up a bit more than it seems like in the pics, or maybe it's just me lol. Rest of the trail was fun. The photographer/girlfriend got a little freaked out cuz of the steep drop off towards the peak, so only really got pics at the very top when we stopped.

Oops, think I posted this in the wrong spot over on CO Jeepers Unite...

Went up for a little day trip yesterday. My buddy has a stock Pathfinder so we chose easy trails outside of Boulder...Sugarloag Mountain and Silverthorne Trail. Very easy trails but a lot of fun. Tons of scenery but we were about a week late I think to see the leaves turn. There were actually a few spurs off the main trail that were a lot of fun and quite difficult. Great for a day trip, especially if you live in the area. It looked like there could be some decent camping in the area as well. Came across a little mud puddle which of course I had to splash through and then a cool picnic area with an old smoke stack, great place for lunch! There were even campground type grills if you wanted to cook up some hot food, would need to bring charcoal of course.
It was so nice to get out there at least one more time before the weather turns from fall to winter. Hopefully fall hangs on a bit longer and we get a chance to get out a few more times.

Nice pics of redcone... the heights on that one are what scare me!! Not sure if the pucker factor is worth the trip. I've been all over the other side starting at Breckenridge and ending at the one way from RedCone...

Pucker factor is pretty cool. You definitely feel accomplished after getting down, like you can finally take a breath and go whew! Its hard to get that feeling into the pics but was definitely well worth the trip.

So...
Last year the trail from the top of the pass to 285 was closed(still may be???) to anything larger than a quad.
Some guy rolled his quad trying to do who knows right there at the pass.
His truck was down at the east base of webster. His friends were able to get through the narrow pass road on their quads, but he was not well enough to hold on, I guess.
So I took him up Red cone, back down to where Webster and Red cone split.
That was fun.

His quad once it was pulled from down there to up here.

Up.
