Red Cone, Sunday July 27th 10AM

Hey All..

If anyone is interested in joining us.. we currently have 6 JKs and a TJ to hit up Red Cone this Sunday. I've been wheeling with this bunch before and we always have a blast.

We will be meeting at the Conoco Station in Bailey, CO at 10am on Sunday. Anyone is welcome to join.. please either reply in this thread or send me a PM if you are interested in coming. Also, please PM your cell phone number so I can add it to my list.

Here are some pics from Red Cone (note: these aren't my pics):

No - I think you are thinking of Twin Cone.

Red Cone is open but you can't go back out Webster to 285. You have to go out Montezuma or go down and take Georgia Pass back to 285. Or I guess you could try to go back up Red Cone !!

Red cone is one way. Only the cycles and quads go back up, and that is a no no...(Quads and cycles seem to be conducting war on the trails this year, everywhere I go there is signs of off trail activity. A-holes).

A few years ago my wife and I were there at the top of Webster and watched a guy and gal come down Red Cone on an ATV. Problem was Webster was snowed in on he 285 side. When they got down I showed the guy the huge snowdrift and asked him how the hell he he was going to get back to the trailhead where his trailer was parked. This was before they graded Red Cone and there was no way in hell he was getting back up the big hill.
Oh crap !!
He was going to have me and another guy try to winch his machine over the edge of Webster and get it down behind the snowdrift. He finally decided against that and they took off into the sunset towards Montezuma. I assume he called and had someone go get his truck and trailer and bring it all the way around.
This guy was a state patrolman and they could easily see that Webster was blocked form the top of Redcone before they started down.

I hear that the "slide" coming back down is terrifying. but ive also heard that its been worked on to make it less dangerous. Is that true?

you are correct. it's no big deal now. the entire trail can be ran in a stock TJ/LJ no problem.

Your stock XJ will do great. Even in the rocky areas there is a very easy way around. The "slide" looks steep.. however any stock Jeep can handle it.

As far as when we get back.. it's really up to you. We will probably leave the Conoco station a bit after 10.. 10:30 at the latest. We have a few guys in the group that need to leave earlier than others.. so I'm sure you will be able to ride out with someone who is looking to leave.

If you are interested I can add you to the list! Currently we have about 8 guys hitting the trail with us!

Brent-

Thanks for coming out to do the Cone with us yesterday. Brooke and I really had a great time. It was nice looking through your pics too. I will load up our shots this afternoon as I forgot my camera cord this morning! There are some really good pictures in the bunch.
