Radical Hill; Webster Pass/Handcart Gulch

Hey Colorado Jeepers -

We're headed out to Summit County (Keystone/Montezuma) and I'm trying to get a gauge on trail conditions.

Particularly Radical Hill, Webster Pass/Handcart. We wanna do a loop taking Webster out of Montezuma - over the Pass - Handcart - back around on Red Cone.

The last report I found through bushducks.com says Webster/Handcart is impassable just over the Pass on the Grant side. Is this going to be the case come the end of this month?

Also wondering if anyone has run Radical Hill and/or what the conditions are.

Us flatlanders would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks.

There are some other guys that ran Redcone and possibly Radical on Monday the 15th. If they post up a report I'll get a link to it for you.

So would you say that Saints John and Deer Creek Trail are both closed at this point as well?

Bushduck's latest report is that both of these are open and good to go through the entirety of the loop out of Montezuma. These trails were awesome last year during second week of August.

I don't know how much snow the area got compared to last year but from what the staff @ Keystone said, last year was much less snow than average.

^^^ Much appreciated Otis

Maybe it'll melt off the south side

We'll have to run up the pass and see when we get there I guess.

Red Cone is a 1 way trail.
Going from the east side to the west side, dumping you out at the top of Webster pass. Only.
One way only!
Do not go the other way...please.

Cool.

With Webster still snow closed on the east side, Red Cone is the logical way into the St. Johns area from the front range, right now. Radical hill is still snow closed too. SOB hill is open(Yikes...). I read that the snow will be gone in a week or 2 on Radical and Webster.

I am thinking of going up there this weekend.

See - with Webster blocked over the pass the only way for us to run Red Cone is to go from Keystone all the way around to the southeast end from 285. That's nearly an hour ana half drive just to get to the trail head and some in our group are trailering.

Hopefully Radical & Webster get good melt in the next coupla weeks.

Georgia pass accesses it from the east also. Bushducks show it as open all the way.
Here is that link: http://www.bushducks.com/tripreps/passopen.htm
People are updating it now.

I read that most everybody that tries Radical hill is making it. The thing about that is no winch points, above tree line. The snow is right there at the cabin.

Just to update this thread:

Got back from our trip yesterday. All trails were good to go all the way through.

Radical Hill, Webster up to the pass, Handcart, and Red Cone.

We also did Middle & North Forks of Swan River.

The trip was great and the trails were incredible. I'll have TONS of pics posted up in my WK build thread when I get them all compiled and xferred to photobucket.

Thanks again for everyone's feedback and especially links.

You Colorado Jeepers have no idea how jealous us flatlanders are. :-)
