Xj PING: Grand Junction Crew

Hey guys,
I am going to be out in Grand Juction for work all week and decided to take the Jeep out instead of the company car so that I can explore a little of that side of the state while I am out there. MY boss hates it when I use the company van to 4x4 LOL.

I should be off around 3 or 4 each day. Curious about local trails, post up some areas that are accessible for evening runs. I am staying off Horizon/I-70. Give me a shout if you want to go too. I know I could check the books and the sites but that wouldn't be very friendly of me now would it?

I was going to try and make a weekend of it too, unfortunately I have to leave Thursday evening to be back here in Denver on Friday morning.

Leaving Denver now, will check back when I reach the hotel tonight.

Mark

Found the GJ. BLM office and they were closed due to Columbus Day, however, out front was some nice maps of the local trail systems including the 4x4 areas and some info on the trails but not as detailed as the various website maps and or trail books. But it was a start anyway.

Unfortunatley, I started hearing a bump under the XJ whenever I hit a pot hole. Gonna have to check that out before I hit any trails. Checked for the basics: shocks were tight, TC bracket/tranny mount were snug, nothing loose that I could move by hand or with a 18 in prybar anyway. Hummm?

Check out Battlement Mesa, just east of Junction. Ran it a few months ago and was pretty easy, could be a little harder after a good rain.

Billings Canyon was a disapointment as it was an all or nothing and nothing else since I got there later in the day. My own fault, oh well. Time to get the 35's, winch, lockers and "absorbent" lol, like the sign says.
