new guy inbound

Looks like i'll be moving the family to Colorado Springs within the next 2 months. I've been doing some research on housing, schools, and wheeling in the area. any advice would be greatly appreciated and I'm really needing some advice on rental properties. I'm looking to stay within 20 minutes drive from the Olympic Training Center as my daughter is going to be part of the Junior Rifle team that practices there. I'd like a house or town house with a garage, rather than an apartment and the range is between 1000-1200 month.
thanks in advance for any advice
Don

Have a look at zillow.com you should be able to find something there. I use colorado4x4.org and traildamage.com for my wheeling needs. Of course, jeepforum.com is also helpful.

thanks for the info all. I've used Zillow, craigslist and redfin for some info but was looking for insight from some of the local people. just don't want to get into the wrong neighborhood. I'm keeping tabs on upcoming runs and cant wait to get there and check stuff out.
Thanks again
Don

Unless you're dead set on living in the Springs, Security/Widefied and Fountain are within 20 minutes of the USOTC. There are good schools down here. Plenty of amenities. Not as congested as the Springs proper. To add to EDM's recommendation, another good group in the area is: http://www.facebook.com/groups/322812201219693/ . That's Stand Tall Colorado 4x4.

Well, we made it and we're closing on a house in the Chapel Hills area. It's driving me crazy just having the jeep on a trailer, sitting there. looking for a possible day run on an easy trail this Saturday if anyone is interested in trail-guiding a new guy. jeeps not stock but don't really know what to expect and i never wheel alone so anyone interested please feel free to let me know.
Thanks
Don

Welcome to colorful Colorado. We have been here about 5yrs now, and are in the process of house shopping. Wife is tied to work right now, so no offroading for the time being. Since I work in Monument, we'll likely settle on the north side of town, wherever its not insanely priced at least. Hopefully you can get some wheeling in before fall sets in. Sept the weather starts to change here, and we very well may see the first snow in the lower elevations before Halloween this year. Since you're likely a firearms type person too, you may get a blast(pun intended) at Dragonman's when he has his machinegun shoot next month.

I've heard about Dragonman. Can't wait and yup, definitely all different types of shooting disciplines as my hobby. gonna have to get some wheeling in before too much snow, although that can be fun too.
