LHC Upper Carnage Post & Cable 8-25-07

This was about 3 times bigger then the Jenny Creek project I did last year. Jenny Creek was 700 fence feet & 90 posts, this one was ~2400 fence feet & 170 posts.

This didn't close down upper carnage. This project simply kept people on the trail and out of the creek bed and also moved some earth to get the creek back in the creek bed in some places.

The FS crews were out there earlier this week as well as other volunteers getting the holes dug with an auger and most of the posts cemented in the ground. The Big Thompson 4WD club adopted this project and were able to get all of the posts for free and had used cable donated to them from some oil fields where the cable can only be used so many years before it is removed.

Brian R and a Mill High Jeep Club member:

All of 286E (Upper Carnage) was closed this week for the P&C project:

Taking a break to eat some lunch:

Unfortunantely we ran out of cable, maybe only 1/3 of the project has been cabled. No pics of the cabled sections since I was working on setting posts.

Since my Jeep is out of comission and is an awesome FWD vehicle, I took my dads Tahoe up there and had it 3-wheeling and 2-wheeling quite often

So how much ended up being done? Are they done setting posts and just waiting on more cable, or do more posts need to be set?

All the posts have been set...just need to string the cable. Won't take long once they get the cable.

The flex you got going on in the Tahoe boggles my mind.

286E is the one that you and I ran from 5-points to the loop, isn't it Ryan?

Yep, the damage didn't look really bad to me at the time, but I guess a lot of people were driving in the creek the whole way up.

Admittedly, the route you and I took was fairly tame - I suspect we didn't even see the really bad stuff. Super-built bozos tend to take the hard lines then make them harder playing on the hillsides and such. I'm glad they're blocking off the damage. Hate to see that fun and scenic stretch get fully shut down.
