July 26, 27, or 28th Cos Spr

I am looking for someone to do a ride with me in the front range within a few hours of Colorado Springs. I will be arriving in the area to visit my wife's family and we are bringing the Jeep from Michigan! I have been reading up on the area's back roads, but have not traveled any of them yet. I would be open to anything my Unlimited stock Rubicon can handle. Please give me a shout if your interested in joining me or you have suggested trails. I'd join one of the clubs in the area, but unfortunately their calendars show no scheduled rides while I am in Colorado.
Also a friend is meeting me in Jackson Hole WY on the 30th of July and has never been west of Chicago. Any tips of trails to take to give him the itch.
Thanks
Greg

I'll be home at the same time and would love to jump in. Unfortunately I'm new to the Springs area and haven't done any trails in the Springs area. I've been researching Grizzly Lake http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=55 and from what the site says and other things I've been told about it, it makes for a pretty good trip. It's about 2 hours from the springs to the trail head and from what I understand it is about 2 hours up the trail.

I won't be getting to the Springs until mid morning/early afternoon on the 27th so the 28th would be it for me.

Maybe the guys here http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f339/ might be able to point you in the right direction as far as Jackson Hole.

Check out Eagle Rock and Mt Baldy. Eagle is fairly tough, Mt Baldy is easy but beautiful. They are in the same area. Both trails are close to CS and are on Traildamage.

I looked at some you tube of grizzly and it might be more than my 33's can handle rtone. The 28th works for me though. Otisdog thanks for the suggestions. I will check them out.

Check out Saran Wrap its by Eagle Rock I'd you can try Metberry Gulch and other gulches by it. The gulches are NW Colorado Springs I believe. I've done Mt baldy and other few easy ones up Old Stage Rd. go to trailhead damage and put in CO springs.

Awesome! I am thinking of doing mount baldy on the 28th of July. Colouxj and Rtone1583 why don't we plan on meeting at broadmoor elementary school 440 W. Cheyenne mountain blvd. at 9am. As others stated there are many trails in the area and we can do others afterwards if there is interest. So glad I found this website. I come out here every summer from Michigan, but don't have anyone to wheel with. If anyone else would like to join us post on this thread and we will see you soon.

BTW, do I need an ORV sticker? Not sure about the regs in Colorado.

As long as you have a license plate I think you are good. There has been a lot of discussion about the off-road stickers and licensed vehicles and the law is unclear. I have never bought one.

Is Mount Baldy close enough to the other trails in the area to do a twofer?

Yes. The sticker thing, as long as your vehicle has a plate then you r good

Galmy 07-03-2013 02:00 PM

Rtone, yes there are several trails along old stage road. Go to trail damage look up mount baldy and then click on the trailheads map. All the waypoints are along old stage. I'm good with a twofer and will pack accordingly. It has been a bit since I've been up their, but if I remember correctly there are some fun obstacles along the way as well. I will be bringing my GPS, trails books, and maps. I have a spot emergency pinger as well, but not sure if my subscription has run out or not.

I was up at Grizzly Lake Thu/Fri (July 4-5). Beautiful. I am on 33's locked on both ends and had no trouble. I helped a stock FJ get up but it took a LOT of effort.

Plenty of other trails in that area as well.
