Going to Estes Park in July
We are taking what has become our annual Colorado trip in about 3 weeks and will be staying in Estes Park. I convinced the wife to let us take the WJ this time. I'm looking for a trail that we can go on and camp overnight. Jeep specs: '03 Overland with 3 1/2" lift and 31.5" tires. I'm not looking for anything extreme. Any suggestions? I would like to stay fairly close to the Estes Park area.

A few options for you: Pole Hill, Johnny Park Rd. and Pierson Park Rd. are all moderate trails. See for details and maps.

Have fun!

Thanks for the suggestions. I was looking at those three. Have you been down any of them?

Storm Mountain is another good one.

Yes. All three of them several times. In fact I just did Johnny Park Rd. and Pole Hill within the past week.

Beautiful scenery, a few fun challenges but nothing too difficult and a lot of fun!

This is the first trip out 4 wheeling on a big trip like this and I am super excited. We were up there last summer but I wasn't in the Jeep. I'm trying to go for a camping site that is a little more difficult to get to.

I did those three trails (Pole Hill, Johnny Park Road, Pierson Park Road) a couple of weeks ago. Pretty mild, but terrific scenery and views of Estes. I don't recall seeing camping spots at Pole Hill but there were definitely plenty of spots on Johnny Park Road and Pierson Park Road.

Enjoy your visit to Colorado.

Thank you all for your input. We ran Johnny Park Road yesterday then got a camping spot about a quarter of the way into Pol Hill. I ran Johnny Park from west to east because I wasn't sure about the entry into it. It was a blast. While pulling off the trail on Pole Hill into on of the camping spots I was even able to 3 wheel the Grand. We had an absolute blast. Thank you for the great suggestions.

Here are a couple. We didn't get too many good pics at all. I also went real easy on the WJ because 1. I wasn't sure of what it was capable of (owned it for only a year, first time taking it out, first time taking it on a trip) and 2. we were 850 miles from home and I didn't want to tear it up. I will say, I was extremely happy with how it performed.

Good pics. Love seeing a WJ in its natural habitat...

Thanks for the pix! Glad you had a great time and no damage done. (I didn't think there would be...) Looks like you had good weather too! Maybe we'll see you out here on your next trip (you KNOW you're hooked!!!)

I knew about the event in October and right now I am planning on making it. I didn't know about the Facebook page though. You have a nice Jeep. I have followed your build.

The time now is 12:41 PM.
