After 4 hours attempting to get to Estes Park in the dark on Friday morning using 4WD trails, (and making a few new ones) it was clear that getting past the Front Range will not be easy for quite a while.
All the canyon roads are in bad shape and the trails were terrible, as well, with incredible mud and water flow.
This was a BIG one guys!
Take a drive up US-34 / the Big Thompson Canyon from The Dam Store to above Drake
(whole thing's worth a watch but skip ahead a bit at the intro "dam store" footage)
@ 2:11 - the Vistens-Smith Mountain Park - shows the "old" washed out, wrecked turbines from the ?1976? flash flood
@ 3:33 - water flow down the mountainside
@ 4:33 - rescue in progress - removing folks from a house on one side of the river - driveway bridge washed out
@ 5:10 - crazy videographer walking close to the edge / NEW looking Honda Van pulled back from the edge of the roadway erosion / roadway getting eroded away
Headed for Moab.
Got a loose it or use it vacation time thing. So, 4 days in Moab. Well 2 1/2... We are going to take 1 day and go to Little Wild horse canyon, a classic slot canyon 40 miles outside of Green river. Green River, 50 from Moab, is 1/3 the price for a hotel. Moab is such a rip off. A Super8 is $150 a night. Green River, $49 same chain.
Moab is VERY close to pricing its way out of my life. I used to go to Moab 8 to 10 times a year, but Moab has changed in the last few years, from a tourist town to a tourist trap, a big tourist trap at that.
I'll be in Colorado Springs this Sunday, anyone want to meet up around the rampage trails just east of pikes peak. Also has anyone been out there recently enough to know what the trails are like right now
Had anyone been up around the Central City area since the big rain? I assume Boulder area is still bad but I live just east of Golden hoping to go up tomorrow. Thoughts?
FYI trails were good but significant snow accumulation on them as of last Saturday. Make sure you have tires up for the job... Mine were not, struggled all day. In fact my buddy has a TJ with 33s with almost brand new tread and couldn't get to the top allow quite steep. Have fun out there ya'll.

I'm going to be in Colorado Springs tomorrow. Has anyone been on the trails off highway 24 by monument. Starting with the rampart trail head off garden road? If those are down, does anyone have a suggestion of anything they know is open?
