There was this big clunk/grind in 4x.
Yeow.
I open up the transfer case and there are all these little metal bits
Yeow.
I pull the main shaft and there these 2 pieces of metal???
Yeow.
There is no bearing at the end of the main shaft, however.
Yeow.
Jeep doesn't have one.
Yeow.
Not an aftermarket part.
Yeow.
I did order one, a week or 3.
Yeow.

Yeow.

Is that the one that's about the size of a bottle cap Tom?

Mine went in Moab...on Hell's Revenge, no less.

I think a whole transfer case is $35 at U Pull and Pay Tom...just sayin'

Moab 4x4 Outpost got mine out of one of the many 231 TCs in their boneyard.

When mine went, I was coming up out of one of the hot tubs and heard a "scritch". I figured I had a couple pebbles under a tire. Nope, that was the POS bearing falling apart. I got to the parking lot at the end and couldn't get out of 4-low. We trailered it to the hotel, dropped the TC and brought it to Outpost for a rebuild, then popped it back in for wheeling a day and a half later, then drove it home. The Red Stone is the most wrenching-friendly hotel in all of Moab. That's why I stay there almost every time I'm out.

Maybe I'll start collecting those little bearings

$35...for a whole case, shoot. I would figure anything Jeep or at least Wrangler is rare and costly. I got a new(used) tc skidplate off ebay and got the feeling it was the last not bent one left.
My tc was going clunk and grind while in 4x, then it got so I could not move the tc shifter anymore.
The guy a Jeep was pleased and happy with me and a $50 roller bearing.
What a goob I am, I paid $50 for a 1 inch roller bearing...

Moab 4x4 outpost is a life saver.

They're definitely good people.

UP&P never has any Wranglers, but the guts of a 231 are pretty universal across all of the Jeep models.

Shaun- I got a lot of $$ in my transfer case. It has an sye and a 4 to 1. It will get rebuilt.
I admit to going to the AA site and drooling over a new Atlas, but alas, never happen.

From this day forward, dogs are not allowed to get old...

Bandit is roughly 17-18 years old, and she's been a pistol the whole time. Blood tests have always been perfect, she's been sprayed by a skunk and she told him to kiss her ***. Fences were her *****. She just jumped over, went on walkabout, then jumped back in the yard before the dog catcher could get anywhere near her. We recently brought a cat into the house that hisses and spits at her...she looks back and says "meh", then walks away. The only thing that kept her from being the ultimate wheeling dog was her disgust at being inside a vehicle. Basically, she rocks.

Several of you have been to the house wrenching or otherwise, and she was always the mellow one. She came to get pets, but otherwise only barked when Peanut did. She loves just about everybody, and is an incredible judge of character.

Yesterday, she had no energy at all; lethargic and staring off into space. She barely made it up the 2 steps from the yard to the top of the deck, then into the house.

After that, she was just staring into space and wouldn't stay laying down.

Bridget brought her into the vet this afternoon, and he put her on an IV for 4 hours or so. She's mildly better, but not her old self.

We're keeping an eye on her tonight, and we go in tomorrow morning to see what her blood tests indicate so we hopefully can see what the hell is wrong. For now, she's just hanging out on the couch.

Update on Bandit - turns out it's kidney failure

The vet asked to keep her at the clinic for 72 hours hooked up to an IV fluid pump to flush out the toxins in her system, and depending on her situation, we may be able to keep her around with diet and maybe some treatments from time to time.

She's somewhere between 16-18 years old, and the rest of her body is in great shape. We always knew her body would give up before she did, and she's still fighting.
