Ahhh...gotcha. I guess I was thinking you needed to support it vertically, as well as push it out so that it's pressed against the pinch weld. Floor jack holding it up, bottle jack pushing it outward?

Nah, no need to press it outward since it is pressed against the pinch seam on one end and bolted tight against the frame rail on the other.

thats the part that is optional to weld. Im glad my buddy has a welder cuz just drilling through the unibody we went through 3 drill bits. note to self - pilot point drill bits aren't good for drilling into unibody

A good drill bit should last for the entire install...get a crappy one and there is a good chance it'll never make it through the thin sheet metal

I have had great experiences with the new Black & Decker black and gold drill bits. They advertise to drill 30% faster than a normal bit and I would say that it is a pretty accurate claim. I've drilled through my tub several times now on the same bits, where as my Riobi bits would occasionally break drilling through wood.

Are you guys starting with a small bit and working up to a larger one? I have used some of my bits many, many times. There are 24 holes through 1/4" plate just on my boat-side rockers alone. I have a drill doctor if anyone needs to shaper a set. I got it for a present and haven't really got to use it yet.

Yeah we're using a 1/8" bit and then either up to a 5/16" or 3/8" bit depending on the hole we're drilling. Haven't had any problems doing it this way (Dewalt bits).
