Colorado Fires.

Last year we vacationed in Colorado, stayed at Tucker Ponds, North of South Fork, South of Wolf Creek pass and had a wonderful time. My father-in-law is the camp manager at Tucker Ponds and had to be evacuated. He still has not been let back in and does not know if they are even going to open or not. I am wondering where in the state would be a good place to take a RV and our jeep on some very good trails.

Any help will be appreciated cause I really want to get out of this heat here in Texas.

Check out the link below.

Basically any county that doesn't have a fire ban in place you are good to have a campfire. If you are coming from out of state it's always good to call the ranger district to make sure they don't foresee any closures in the area you wish to camp.

Also check inciweb.org it has fire info as well. The west fork fire complex is a monster right now. We've been breathing the smoke from it for days. The other day the smoke was so bad, you couldn't see the sun. Northern part of the state looks to be safer right now as far as fires goes, but that is subject to change. Because of no el nino, leading to a prolonged drought, and a lot of beetle kill, we've got a bad fire season this year as predicted. In the last 12 months El Paso county(Colorado Spring area) has lost almost 900 homes to fire.

Fire ban. Can only have fire in designated rings at forest service campgrounds. Most of which are already reserved. I know because I was planning on heading downt there next week. Might just get a hotel room if I end up going at all.

Not being able to have a camp fire is OK with us, more concerned with burnt scenery and smoke haze while we are there. Taking the motor home so we can cook inside.
