Yeah the payment is just the tip of the ice berg when it comes to home ownership.

I spent $350 this weekend on a bush, some flowers, top soil, potting soil, spakle, paint, paint brush, and some a few landscape bricks.

By the way can you believe that one bush can cost $100, you have to be kidding me, I almost started laughing when the guy told me the price.

Oh and next week it is time to finally get the wood floors refinished. $700

So in a 2 week span I will have dropped $1050+ into the house with another $500 or so to go this summer.

Can you say? "no long arms for me".

Not to mention the payment that comes every month.

I sure love the American Dream.

Good luck with your build up. If you manage your funds, you will be able to get back to jeep mods soon enough.

Ahh, the perils of growing older. I went from a $500/mo rent to a $2000/mo mortgage (paying extra on it). I figured the back yard is going to cost me in the area of about $12k. I'm already $3k into it.

You should be able to get the front axle regeared at least this year, shouldn't you? I know it's still a lot of money, but after a couple months you'll see where you are with payments and know what you can spend later on. Not like me- no more upgrades for a while. If anything, the only thing I will get the rest of this year is some rockers, just to get Arlo off my back about it finally.

Design your own bumper? Is that where being a member of rockfrogs comes in hand?

Not sure, I kinda like doing my own projects so I don't want to rely on someone else to do all of the welding when I would want to learn myself. I am sure the Rock Frogs would help me out as well as Don has graciously offered to help me...

that sounds fun, i thought about doing my own QD and sliders. I just learned that my brothers friend has a realy good welder so i might think about getting a lesson or two in welding two from his dad who works on diesel trucks for some big company.

You can do your own quick discos for about $10 (actually less than that). You just need to get a couple clevis pins and a couple cotter pins and call it good.

Welding isn't too hard, once you get the hang of it. I haven't done it much, but I have done it. I think the hardest part is setting it up so you get good penetration with the weld, but not too hot that you are burning through. There was a welder on CO4x4 not too long ago for like $400 or so- 110V.

Like Josh said you can do your own discos for about $10, but they rattle and make alot of noise. I love my JKS quicker discos. If you stop by the Lowe's on 88th and Sheridan when I'm there I can set you up with everything you need to make your own discos.

Sway bar removed, shocks disconnected (burnt the bushings accidently because I had to grind off two bolts), e-brake disconected, ABS sensors disconnected, brake lines removed, drive shaft u-joint straps removed, upper A-arm disconnected, LCA's disconnected, axle fell onto floor, axle drug next to trash can.

Waiting for paint to dry before the new one goes in

You should have posted up man! I would have come up to help you. I'm bored as all get out right now (though I think I am getting sick...). Hope the rest of the install goes well!

I thought about posting up but I was fearing that I would be missing something early on and would just waste a trip for people

Luckily it has gone smoothly so far, minus the 30 minutes I argued with the Jahoveus Witnesses

Carnage from D35-->D44a axle swap:

Oh yeah, I think I have air in my ABS system meaning I need to visit the dealership to get them to flush it properly (something about having to cycle the ABS valves to get the air out ), AND I need a new rear driveshaft since the current one is 2" too long.

I am thinking about getting Tom Woods SYE for the 242...Another $500 down the drain

Axle installed:

No idea how the spring broke...I think it was faulty.

So I had this "thought" months ago. I wonder if my drive shaft will be the wrong size.

I kept putting it off, "ignoring" the "problem"

Well, it is 2" too long

So I could either:
1) Have a local shop modify my drive shaft to be shorter, easy to cut and reweld. This is the cheapest.
2) Have a local shop or Tom Woods build me a new drive shaft that is beefier.
3) Get Tom Woods SYE for the 242 with a new beefier shaft, most expensive @ $500 ($900 - $400 core deposit)...

I am leaning towards option 3 so I could drive off the trail w/o a rear shaft...

I need to see if Teraflex will warranty my springs since they are only 16 months old, I doubt it. If they don't, I'll order a 1" taller spring since my back sits a little low right now, especially with the gear I haul around.

I need to get my Jeep to the dealership to bleed the ABS system. I "hear" that if you get air in the ABS system they need to cycle the abs valves to get air out of them. Right now the brakes "work" but are moderately soft

Check my reply on RF.

SYE is a must have mod if you are going with bigger tires. Be careful about Tom Woods- I was warned by multiple shops.

X1050 on Tom Woods! I have seen some ugly stuff. Have your shaft built locally! Call Dave at Driveshaft Doctors about 1 block south of the Grizzley Rose. He will take care of you and does killer work. Da # is 303-297-2928. He should be much cheaper and the coin stays here.
