Hey guys, as of late I've been working on the weekends, but i have today and tomorrow off. Just curious if anyone would be interested in wheeling around Fort Collins with me on Friday. Storm Mountain, White Pine, Kelly Flats, Old Flowers are ones I haven't done, and I could be persueded to do Sevenmile, Moody, or Crystal again.
It's really funny you just mentioned that, I was thinking about posting again to see if anyone was interested. Then I logged on and saw posts from a new member, you, and saw that you were in foco and thought well, maybe I will post again seeing if anyone wants to get wheelin'. So to answer your question yes. Like I said before, the trails in the area that I have done are Seven Mile, Crystal Mountain, and Ballard Road. So I'm not hugely experienced with the tough stuff. My jeep is mostly stock with a 1.25 BL, steering box skid, and 31's. I think I should be fine doing Kelly Flats if you're interested in that, but I would likely skip the Chutes and Heart Attack Hill. Out of curiosity, does anyone know how Heart Attack Hill compares to that final hill on Crystal Mountain, I assume its much longer with more rocks, but is it steeper? So what trails would you want to do? You can call me to if you want, name is Dylan - 970-227-6145.
It is all about picking the right line, so let me rephrase that. If you're not confident that you can pick a line up there w/o getting sideways (it is steep) and you're not with someone who can spot you up, then take the bypass...there is no shame in that. Go up there and look at it yourself before you say no
ugh.. I've heard horror stories about kelly flats... I'd really like to go to moody, we wen't up last year but missed the 2 obstacles at the top, it was way dark and we just decided to go last minute. I will look at more about kelly flats and see if I'm prepared enough, after all I do only have 31" all terains...
Alright, we should try to meet at maybe Verns Tavern or something like that. I want to try to meet at noon if that works for you, I hope others wil come too. I have friend with a newer land cruiser that he would definitly take and another friend with a bad *** Tacoma that would maybe go... we'll see.
The bypass was actually pretty challenging. It was easier than the hill, but will still require picking the right line, etc. I have done the hill and the bypass, they are completely different types of terrain.
I would think 31"s could run the hill with a good spotter- if you ever decide to go up it.
